Strong Opening. Mellow Middle. Go for the Kill Ending

My old music instructors, Eric Christian and Arie Jackson used to say: “What matters is a strong opening and a strong closing. They won’t remember the middle.”

The Democrazies had a strong opening. Since Pelosi didn’t talk much, her orchestrated combination of “The Vagina Monologues” with a touch of Aretha Franklin in the background was bearable.

I expect a milder presentation tonight, given that the East Coast will be distracted by the Cowboys-Giants game. (Apologizing now to my Brooklyn-Bronx posse. Got to go with the Boys).

Thursday will be a different story. The convention will end strong with President Obama. All he has to do is show up and sing an opening line from “Let’s Stay Together”, at which point Michelle will drag his ass off the stage in fear of women rushing the stage. It’ll be a strong finish either way.

Seriously, Mr. Obama will have to open with a contrite frame of mind. As commander-in-chief, he should point out his errors and shortcomings. The humility will continue the connection with the public that was started last night. When he finishes with the opening, then he can go ballistic on the GOP. He won’t even have to mention Mittens. Just contrast a feely, feely Administration with the obstructive characteristic of the Republicans and he will knock it out of the park.

Should be interesting. Oh well, until then …. and by the way,

Go Cowboys!
