Bob McDowell to leave the FCC

Social media is abuzz with the unexpected departure of Federal Communications Commission member Robert McDowell.  Mr. McDowell, a Republican, was , until last May, the lone voice against progressive FCC policies calling for greater regulation of the broadband market.  He has also been the tip of the spear against international regulation of the Internet, warning Congress of the adverse impact on Internet freedom that could result if states not known for being too friendly to democratic ideals of freedom of information exchange were able to regulate information flow across the world wide web.

That leaves Ajit Pai as the sole voice against more regulation of broadband.  If The Washington Post’s Cecilia Kang is correct, FCC chairman Julius Genachowski may be close on Mr, McDowell’s heels …
