Elementary schools need art

According to a PBS NewsHour article aired a few minutes ago, 50% of art teachers teach at two or more elementary schools. A lot of emphasis on Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) education, but without art, engineers would be walking, talking machines. Ships would have no beauty in their designs.

The smartphone you have would be used less because it’s the art of the design that keeps you pulling it out and using the phone. Advertisers would not be able to market the “sex appeal” of their vehicles unless there was something artistic about them.

BMW is a driving machine, but the Mercedes is a work of art.

If you are concerned about our society being able to express its humanity throughout the culture, then you want art in schools ….
